Welcome at European Makers

In November 2001 European Makers Gallery opened its doors in the lower level of an historic building in the Amsterdam 'Spiegelkwartier', close to the Rijks-museum .

We exhibit and sell contemporary applied art. The emphasis lies on wonderful ceramics, glass, textiles and also paintings by established and new and upcoming artists from all over Europe. Our collection is carefully selected and exhibited in a light and serene space, enabling the visitor to fully appreciate and enjoy the works of art in all their beauty.

Jean Raymond Meunier (1957, Frankrijk)

I have been working as a sculptor for 20 years and of late I also have started to paint. I isolate myself in my downstairs studio with my clay, my driftwood, my brushes, my colours. And I kneed, paint, observe, cut, nail... always watching my material. And slowly, during hours, days, months, years of solitude and isolation, I tell my life story... and that of other people.. (at least that's how I see it)

My sculptures are made of clay (grès de St Amand), weathered through oxidising and added coloured patches of clay. When they are really large, I make the sculptures out of driftwood. I am interested in everyday life, love, boredom, travelling, 'le temps perdu'; in everything that is part of our daily life. I feel that my work is humoristic and also moving.
